Top Tens

Getting stuck in a 16x14 for 3 months(and counting) can do strange things to your brain (including creating a blog, which is not so strange, come to think of it).

Anyway I've decided after much much contemplation, that I shall make a list of all things I love. And because i love so many things, I'm just gonna have to start some where. So,

MY TOP 10 CHICK FLICKS OF ALL TIME:
(spoiler alert* I have not watched any of the classics, simply because torrents are not a-plenty)

Now, with that off my chest, here's my list of all things goey, cupcake crusty, puppydoggy and sunshiney.

# 10
AISHA:

Its the only non-English movie that's made the list, and for good reason.
I watched Aisha with a semi packed afternoon crowd in Kochi, with a friend who hated chick flicks and who enthusiastically booed with 10 others at the woefully long climax(Okay I admit. I was one of the 10 others, but come on, that climax on the balcony was just asking for it!)
But i saw it on DVD later on and caught myself enjoying it! So, okay, it had a completely boring Sonam Kapoor playing the title character with no conviction, which is surprising,  as the character is right up her alley-a clueless, rich, daddy's little gal.  Ah well at least she rocked them lovely costumes.
But here's why I love the movie despite its many, many shortcomings. It has one of the most spectacular support cast i have seen in recent times. From Ira Dubey playing the spunky Pinky Bose( literally wearing the most colouful clothes i have ever seen) to Cyrus Sahukar as  the sweet loser,  Randhir Gambhir ,down to the   homey college boyfriend  Saurab (isn't he cute ), everyone fits into their roles with such ease.
That and the lovely music of Amit Trivedi(whom i loved in Dev D) with all the pretty clothes everyone flaunts, puts Aisha on the list.
Oh and it has this splendid gem of a song called "sham hai" which is such a doable guitar song(even for amateurs like me).

I LOVE YOU, MAN:

I LOVE YOU, MAN isn't exactly a chick flick, its a "bromance" apparently. Do not ask me what that means, I think the term is kinda self-explanatory.
I loved it for two reasons, Paul Rudd and Jason Segel. I mean come on, they are the cutest and funniest chick flick heroes available, and i  think the director had a stroke of genius putting the two together.
It has plenty of the superb awkward, deadpan situations that Paul Rudd is famous for, and I lapped it all up.
Its not the first of its kind, you know, where two random men meet and become best of friends, but the fact that the movie doesn't take itself too seriously, and does not end up getting all preachy about friendship makes it immensely watchable.
I loved the scene where "Doug" one of the "man dates" Paul goes on, comes up and confronts him saying, "It was the taste of betrayal you fucking whore." The look on his face is priceless.
Also hilarious are the ridiculous rejoinders that Paul comes up with, "totes mcgotes" and "I'll see you in a jiff"!
So yeah, if you love Paul Rudd like I do, and enjoy deadpan comedy, this one would fit the bill.

BRIDE WARS:

Its the perfect Sunday afternoon movie, to watch with your gal pals over some delicious cookies.(Which is exactly how i watched it, hence the pointer)
Both Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway are queens of this genre in their own right, and with both of them declaring a "war" on each other, the movie is a winner all the way. The guys don't have much to do here, which is a relief. Nope, this one is rife with wedding gowns, three tier cakes, tan sabotages and even has a sequence where one of the ladies turning up to a meeting with blue hair. The deliciously wicked plan that the girls cook up to  ruin each other's wedding is an eye-opener and honestly I wouldn't  mind trying some of them on certain people i know, even if they weren't getting married on the same day as me.
All in all,I guess we can all agree that, good acting, atrocious pranks and lots of cake and gowns make a superb flick.
What was that? You don't agree? You don't want me tanning you orange before your big day, so just nod and smile!

P.S. I LOVE YOU:

So I'm a sucker for Irish hunks who strum the guitar and sing like a rockstar, you go ahead and judge all you want, I'm just gna sit back and drool some more at Gerard Butler.
I haven't read the novel the movie is based on, so I'm gonna go ahead and declare that the movie is better anyway. It may be a mushy love story all the way, but it has some solid performances by Swank and Butler not to mention the deranged gang of friends that support Swank during her mourning. I love Liza Kudrow (I'm a F.R.I.E.N.D.S maniac) and to see her in a movie after a long time, had me loving this one even more. The scene where all three of them are stuck on a row boat in the midlle of nowhereOh and yes, watching this movie WILL make you want to rush of to Ireland and lose your way in one of them National Parks. The movie also has a nice sprinkling of songs which I loved. And the scene where Swank calls Butler's phone just to hear his sound on voice mail , is just soo soo sad (I got  teary, I did). I would have put it in the top 5 a couple of years ago, but guess I ain't a teary sucker of a  teenager no more. RATS.

THE HOLIDAY:

Who wouldn't want to a break from their dreadful lives (oh you don't have a dreadful life? Bite me!) and go on a vacation to a far and mysterious land and live some random person's house! Its the dream right? Well with such a dreamy premise for a movie, its only fair that THE HOLIDAY make the list. I adore Kate Winslet and that lovely British accent.(sigh) and yes, like Cameron Diaz I would love to live in the English Countryside and meet the most gorgeous of men traipsing around in that lovely little cottage.
Besides the obvious feel good factors in the movie, it also has some marvelous dialogues, said with such amazing feeling, that I couldn't help but nod vigorously in agreement tearing up, obviously.

Kate Winslet steals the show in this one, no doubts there, but Diaz does have her moments in the movie, the one where she throws her cheating boyfriend out of the house and trying to drive on the left side in Britain are supremely funny. Jude Law as the dreamy British dude, has nothing much to do, but Jack Black as the insecure but brilliant musician is adequate.
So, yeah, if you are a drama queen like yours truly, then, getting drunk and watching this movie and crying at all the appropriate places, is a worthwhile experience. Believe me!

The post has gotten long enough, ya think? So I'm gonna break it off here and continue the top 5 in the next post.
